Sherman's March

General William T. Sherman, figurehead of the war effort of the Union, comes to Atlanta with the sole intention of obliterating the city. He burns plantations to the ground and pulls up railroad tracks, accomplishing his goal. As a result, the then freed African Americans of the area followed Sherman throughout Georgia because they knew they were protected by such a mighty leader. This ultimately resulted in many African Americans returning to Atlanta following the war to start families, businesses, and futures.
