Segregation on Ponce Ave.

Due to the impact of the Civil Rights Movement, Atlanta becomes divided along the invisible wall of Ponce de Leon Avenue, separating the white folk in North Atlanta from black folk in South Atlanta, which included neighborhoods such as the Old Fourth Ward, home to Martin Luther King Jr. and a cultural node of the African American population in Atlanta.

Many of Atlanta’s streets, while a singular street, are historically known under two different names by each of the communities, marking this divide.
